Partnerships

We’re pleased to share a new partnership between ROOT Physio and Flovia, a women’s aqua fitness studio based in London. It’s a natural pairing. Flovia’s classes are low impact, joint friendly and built for exactly the kind of movement that complements physiotherapy and recovery, and we wanted our patients to have an easy way into that.

Many of our patients often ask us how to stay active throughout the treatment process until recovery is achieved. Flovia provides an excellent alternative to traditional high impact exercise, while still providing a structured, professionally run option for patients who want to stay athletic without added strain on the joints, as well as those still building back up after injury.

Flovia is a studio offering women-only aqua fitness classes across London, with sessions running at Canada Water Leisure Centre and The Castle in Elephant and Castle. Their approach is built around a simple idea: high intensity where it counts, low impact where it matters, so the body can work hard without the strain that often comes with equivalent training on land. Each class runs for 45 minutes, and there are three to choose from.

Cycl’H2O is an aqua cycling class. You’re on a stationary bike submerged in water, pedalling against resistance that builds strength in the legs without the joint loading of a normal spin class.

Double Impact splits the session into two halves. Twenty minutes on the bike to work the legs, then twenty minutes off the bike for a full body aqua aerobics workout. H2O Burn skips the bike altogether. It’s a rhythmic, full body aqua aerobics class built around endurance, strength and flexibility.

Because all of this happens in water, the impact on knees, hips and backs is significantly lower than equivalent exercise on land, while the resistance of water still gives the muscles plenty to work against. Water also supports body weight in a way that flat ground simply can’t, which is part of why aqua based training has long been used in rehabilitation settings, not just fitness ones.

A good amount of physiotherapy is about what happens between sessions, not just what happens in the room. Patients managing joint issues, recovering from injury or easing back into fitness after a period of pain often need movement that’s challenging enough to build strength, but gentle enough not to undo the progress made in treatment. Water-based training sits well in that gap. It comes up often enough in conversation with patients that building a proper referral relationship made sense, rather than just mentioning it in passing.

There’s also a wider benefit beyond any single injury or condition. Low impact cardio of this kind is good for general joint health, circulation and cardiovascular fitness, the sort of steady, sustainable movement that supports long term wellbeing rather than just short-term recovery. For patients who’ve found land-based gyms or classes uncomfortable, intimidating or simply unsuitable while healing, a women-only, low impact studio environment can make a real difference in whether they keep moving at all.
